Halloween is the best time of year to be hanging out in a craft store all day. (Halloween, and the winter holidays. And birthdays. And the rest of the year . . . ) If you like candy, not only do we have an awesome array of books spanning from Truffles, Candies and Confections all the way to Cake Pops, but we also have colorful foil wrappers for homemade candy and Martha Stewart’s Gothic Cupcake Wrappers.
If your crafting tastes run toward the functional, check out our adorable Super Scary Bat Bag class for a handmade must for Trick or Treating. Cheryl Cambras, known for her Happy Luscious Crocheted Ice Cream and Terrifying Yeti classes, has created a new fall project. Open to beginners and experienced crocheters, come and craft up some spooky fun for Halloween!
Want a new spin for your yarn and fiber crafts? Come and learn Amigurumi – an incredibly versatile style of crocheting in the round. Originating in Japan, this style of crochet has made its mark on the States in the form of simple yet expressive little creatures. Taking inspiration from the book Creepy Cute Crochet, our store is now haunted by miniature ghoulies and beasties getting ready for some holiday fun.
We’ve been talking about doing a Sugar Skull class for months, and all of our research has pointed us straight to Angela Villalba. Angela teaches her workshops internationally, spreading her infectious enthusiasm for this unique art form and colorful holiday. In preparation for Angela’s Sugar Skull and Papel Picado class on the 16th we’re carrying a variety of sugar skull molds and supplies, and are having a great time trying our hand at edible art.
A few weekends ago, one of our favorite customers Amber came in sporting this adorable bag she whipped up with Alexander Henry Willow Berries fabric. I love the drawstring and envelope closure!

Also made from Willow Berries are these yummy reversible kids placemats, handcrafted by our esteemed member Shannon Kors.

You can support a local artisan by picking up a set of these babies here in our shop for only $35! Here at the UCC we look at these beautiful fabrics every day, but always on the bolt. It’s so inspiring when you guys bring in the wonderful things you make with it! Have a beautiful day :))) luv ucc
Here at the UCC we’ve got a myriad of books on all things crafty, and this week we plundered through our library in search of the perfect tent pattern for our upcoming summer window display. Boy did we find it! I’ve leafed through One Yard Wonders a few times before but never committed to a project, until Rhea came across Milo’s Feline-Friendly Tepee. Crystal clear diagrams and step by step instruction urged us along from start to finish. This was a quick afternoon project and it took, you guessed it, ONE YARD!!! I know I’m makin’ a few for my feline friends at home and there’s even been some buzz in the studio of modifying the pattern for lifesize tepee fun. Not to mention how stunning this lil guy is going to look in our window!! Have a thoroughly resplendent weekend!
I just couldn’t harness my joy any longer and had to share with you all these sublime new fabrics!! Including Heather Ross for Kokka Far Far Away II, Echino’s Spring 2010 collection, and lots of cute new stuff from Michael Miller and Alexander Henry, too. We’ve got bright safari prints, sweet Rapunzel scenes and and an Alice In Wonderland that’ll make you gasp. All new fabrics are included in our fabric sale at 15% off, so come say hey before these bolts are empty! Our Summer Fabric Sale starts this Sunday the 13th and lasts the entire week through next Sunday the 20th. Have a beautiful weekend and we look forward to seeing you!!!
