A couple of weekends ago, the Urban Craft Center hosted Lexi Boeger of Pluckyfluff,
and her spinning wheel for another round of art spinning! We had a great group of women
join us as we carded and spun all sorts of fibers and materials and even the odd non-fiberous item into our yarn.

Take a look at what we created!

To be honest, I’m not a very proficient spinner. I typically only have the time to spin when we’re at a craft show and I’m conducting a demo, but fortunately for me, art yarn revels in the uneven, mismatched, and lumpy!

Many of us were using Lendrum spinning wheels, (the model we have in the studio), but a couple of spinners had Matchless from Schacht Spindle Co. We’ve been drooling over the Ladybug and the Sidekick – both of which are reportedly very good machines (and they look awesome!)

We’re thinking about bringing these into the studio, as well as a few small table looms if anyone is interested…
For those of you already equipped with a wheel, we have several types of roving available in the shop. And if making your own yarn doesn’t sound like your idea of a good time, we do have Noddyboom’s beautiful hand spuns available in the store for purchase.

PLEASE NOTE: THE WORKSHOP BEGINS AT 10AM ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Workshop Description
These Pluckyfluff workshops are two full days of class that cover a broad range of
spinning techniques from my books Handspun Revolution, Intertwined and
HandSpun (due out Fall ’11). But these techniques are just a place to start, the
point of this class is to investigate and develop your own creative ideas. There
will be ample opportunity to try new things one-on-one, or get the whole class
involved! The goal of the class is to develop an artistic awareness within
students so that they can see fiber and yarn as a medium for creative expression.
Bring an open mind and you’re sure
to leave with a smile (oh, and…LOTS of cool yarn!)
